project overview: kitchen extension and full house refurbishment

We designed a modern rear extension and an attached garage to the side of this character semi-detached house in central Northwood. The house is in an ‘Area of Special Character’ which meant enhanced scrutiny of the designs by the Planners, but despite this, we managed to navigate the planning process to a successful outcome.
The design includes a frameless glass link between the original house and the new extension which brings light into the heart of the new family area.
The entire house was refurbished, including improving the insulation of the entire house and installing a new Air Source Heat Pump to provide heating and hot water. Rainwater recycling was also included with a storage tank under the new garage floor.
The new house has been designed to bring light into the centre of the house, with high vaulted ceilings and rooflights making the house feel much larger inside than it would appear from the relatively modest exterior.
